Wedding: Jack McGroarty and Andrea Paton

“Jack and I met at a Christmas party in South Boston in Dec. 2011,” writes Andrea. “Neither of us had set plans on going to a Christmas party that night. We both, however, wound up at a party where neither of us knew the host. We got to talking, and the rest is history. We started dating soon after we met and not a weekend went by where we didn’t see each other. Jack proposed on his birthday because he knew that’s when I would least expect it. He proposed on a post-dinner walk along the Charles River.”

The two were married on Sept. 21, 2013, in Edgartown.

Q&A with the bride

What is one piece of advice you’d give your friends who are planning a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard?

Listen to your vendors’ suggestions. They are the experts.

What is one piece of advice you’d give your friends who are planning a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard?

I can’t think of one!

Is there anything you regret splurging on?

Nope. We had the wedding of our dreams.

Is there anything you think you spent too much money or time on?

In the beginning stages of planning, I was spending a lot of time on which varieties of flowers I wanted in the bouquets. I reached out to our flowers vendor Donaroma’s and they were able to point me in the right direction of what I was looking for. They were always just an email away when we were off-Island.

What was your favorite part of the big day?

Our favorite part was being invited on stage to sing with the band.
