The Yard comes to the Performing Arts Center

The Yard will take the stage at the Performing Arts Center on April 29.

In a showcase of the artistic talents of the Yard’s executive director and co-producer Alison Manning and director of Island programs and education Jesse Keller comes Dance the Yard. DTY will end the Yard’s winter season with its first-ever performance on the high school’s Performing Arts Center stage at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School on Saturday, April 29, at 7 pm. The dancers will perform three works, each coming from its own perspective.

Performances include “atlas,” which delves into “the internal map that is the human experience of the self,” according to the Yard’s website. The performers are both longing for the past and looking toward the future, creating a map together.

“Blue of Distance” is a work “inspired by what identity means to the individual.” The film version was directed by Danielle Mulcahy, and premiered in 2015 as a part of the Yard’s 2015 Yard Arts Season.

“Vantage Point” is inspired by architectural elements of landscapes. For this performance, Jesse Keller and Alison Manning create a moving landscape of bodies, manipulating and inhabiting the space simultaneously.

Dance the Yard artists will participate in a Q and A session following the performance as part of ArtWeek Boston.
