A little History: The Chilmark Flea originated in 1967 on the grounds of the Chilmark Church located at 9 Menemsha Cross Road. Over time, growing popularity and parking limitations forced The Flea to leave its home. It first moved to a delightful and sprawling Middle Road field strewn with large boulders and many trees which helped provide shade for the vendors. After several years in the field, The Flea found itself doing the Vineyard shuffle: moving across town lines to the West Tisbury School on Old County Road, where there was no shade whatsoever. After one baking hot summer on the school’s parking lot, however, The Flea returned to Chilmark, thanks to a generous local who wanted to give back to the community by offering the use of his property at 142 North Road. After four years there, The Flea continues to thrive.
