Kingsbury Fields

Hoorah for Baaa!

One of the biggest events in Vineyard history was during the American Revolution, when the British Navy rounded up most of the sheep on the Island to feed its sailors. It’s appropriate, therefore, that the Land Bank is keeping the Island safe for our fine woolly friends.

From the Land Bank’s description: While livestock are aplenty in Vineyard Haven, seldom are they visible to travelers passing on the public roads. This sheep-pasture rises on the east side of the State Road and is one of the last particularly tranquil moments before motorists arrive in the Island’s main port town.

Getting there: The fields in question are just past the Vineyard Assembly of God church on State Road in VH, just before the town line with West Tisbury.
