Slight Indulgence opened its doors in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, one of six towns on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, in May 1990. About two years after having started a small jewelry wholesaling business in New England and New York upon graduating from college, an opportunity presented itself: an open retail location on my favorite island calling to me. Why, I don’t know–I knew nothing about retail. I reasoned, however, that I hadn’t known anything about wholesaling and I hadn’t starved–though living with my parents probably had more to due with my sustenance than anything else. In any event, I made the move, figured it, or something, out and, well, another store (in Edgartown–another town on Martha’s Vineyard for those of you who haven’t been here yet) and a web site later and here we are. Sixteen seasons.
It is the beginning of the story, though, that should matter to you most. We offer nicely discounted prices because of relationships with various artisans that I started cultivating way back when I was wholesaling. Take a look around the site. We think you’ll find our prices to be quite attractive.
Sixteen seasons. That’s a pretty long time. We’ve been here this long because we offer extraordinary pieces of jewelry for ordinary prices, and because we stand behind what we sell . . .and we have fun doing it. Come on in and have fun with us. –Scott
